blackout spike is the flavor of the month for GvG this season, blame Te for beating Evil with it(well almost)
any team that had some lame gimmick build for the playoffs last season is now running blackout spike(maybe with a few exceptions)

A fairly hex light metagame, yes. However, the hexes that are being used are mainly warrior hate. Shadow of Fear, Faintheartedness, Blurred Vision... Hex Breaker warriors? Not a bad idea.

In one week it's almost a guarantee that you won't see that same build again.

I have been seeing more folks running Rifts fastcast air spike as well. While I admit I like running it as well, I was surprised to see our various divisions run into it 4 or 5 times last night (all different teams).

Sure they had the exact same combination of primary and secondary classes for all 8 players. However, there were key differences. iQ was running with one sword and one hammer warrior. Te used two axe warriors. iQ had a crip-shot ranger using dodge while Te's crip shot ranger used storm chaser. There may have been other differences, but these are the ones I noticed.
The similiarities in the their build actually made for a very interesting match and I would qualify this as one of the best matches I have ever observed.

Im a personal fan of Fast Cast Air Spike, works well, my old guild was unlucky enough to go against Te right after season started, we used FCAS and we did well enough

1. having only 1 mesmer is a break from the metagame, as is having a cripshot ranger
2. both teams' warriors are reasonably unique. Te runs Shock/DistractingBlow axes, iQ runs a either a Shock axe or a Shock hammer plus Lara's "Charge!"/Gale sword with no Frenzy swapstance (and usually no rez sig)
3. fastcast airspike isn't Rift's build. they've just run it recently, and to great success
4. a team's success doesn't come from their superior build, it comes from their superior ability to play together, regardless of what build they're running

True - but every time I run it people always say "gg Rift" or "way to steal a build from Rift," even though people were playing the same thing last year. I think Rift just popularized it more recently due to their excellent execution.
Just as I am sure no one remembers who really started the current meta-game build, I am sure eventually people will stop identifying fastcast airspike with Rift as well.

Does anyone know how iQ managed to come from behind in this one? They had nearly a complete party wipe early and Te got early morale boosts. Did Te make some tactical errors or was something else at play here?

For once, NRA isn't running some identical copycat of someone else's build. Yay!!! (Our entire 1st season could've been much better if we had just made our own build. )

Only ever complain about a stagnant metagame when it is something lame, like IWAY or the November Spike. If everyone is running builds like this that'd be fine, because the best team will always win.

Me/Ele with Orb/Strike as main damage, Enervating as additional damage and cover for Blinding Flash, Dual Attunements for energy management, Gale for interrupts and snares, res sig. Probably there are many variants by now, but when we are training folks we keep it simple with 5 identical Me/Eles, 2 Mo/Me boon prots, and an E/Mo runner. It's quick to set up and run even with new folks, splits sufficiently well, and if executed well has a good chance to win against a lot of different builds. A major weakness though is enchantment removal as e-man is pretty critical for frequent spiking.
